Latching relay: the contact stays engaged after pick-up (even if the coil loses power, until a separate reset path); instantaneous relay: the contact picks up when the coil is energized and releases when de-energized. Industrial remote output logic: instantaneous mode (moves while held, stops on release - default); latching mode (press once to hold, press again to release), used for lighting, brakes, etc. The Leader LD series supports programmable switching between the two modes.
